BVSD is committed to the success of every student. As is stated in our Board of Education’s 2007-2012 Equity goal: During the next five years, BVSD will narrow the achievement gap in all content areas as is shown in CSAP Weighted Index Scores and median growth percentile, content area assessments, ACT and graduation rates.
Closing the achievement gaps for traditionally underserved groups of students--English Home Language Latino Students, English Language Learners, Students receiving Meal Assistance, and Identified Special Education Students—has been challenging.
As Chris King states in his “Message from the Superintendent” in the Annual Report on achievement of board goals, “Our main strategy for improvement is to employ active, interventionist approaches to student learning that lift the achievement of the significant minority of students who are challenged inherently or by circumstance or both to become New Century Graduates. This is the focus of our equity goal which seeks to close achievement gaps among distinct student populations.”
To that end, we have created many initiatives that support our work to close opportunity and achievement gaps in our district. Click here for the initiatives and the people to contact for more information about them. Overseeing all of these initiatives is an Equity Advisory Committee. Members of the committee and a description of the committee’s work are in links listed below.
Please feel free to contact any of us at any time with concerns, questions or advice. We’re ready to learn from you about how to provide equitable opportunities and futures for each student in BVSD!
